redesigned and re-engineered: iconic Subaru BRZ delivers next level exhilaration with new generation

More power, greater handling precision, a stand-out design: those are the hallmarks of Subaru’s highly anticipated new BRZ, the latest generation of the rear-wheel drive sports coupe.

The car that inspired a generation of loyal followers has been reimagined, re-engineered and redesigned inside and out to be faster, sexier and more fun than ever.

Laden with Subaru’s motorsport DNA, all-new MY22 BRZ displays powerful new tech that combines with its classic rear-wheel-drive sports car layout to deliver true sports car values.

A powerful new 2.4-litre, naturally-aspirated, horizontally-opposed Boxer engine fitted with both direct and port fuel-injection systems brings improved performance, delivering a lusty 174 kilowatts of power and 250 Newton metres of torque with impressive acceleration.

For automatic, power is up 27 kilowatts over the outgoing model and torque by 45 Newton metres. For manual, power is increased by 22kW and torque by 38Nm.

BRZ’s new Boxer engine gets its power to the ground through either a precision six-speed, close-ratio manual or performance-oriented six-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Both transmissions get the engine’s prodigious power to the road through a Torsen® rear limited-slip differential.

Automatic variants introduce Subaru's award-winning EyeSight® Driver Assist technologies to the sporty coupe for the first time.

Two model variants, BRZ Coupe and BRZ Coupe S are available, both offering an extensive standard equipment list that includes smart key access with push button start, LED headlights with automatic height adjustment, Vehicle Dynamics Control, 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control air-conditioning, Active Sound Control to enhance engine sound inside the cabin for a more engaging driving experience and a strong suite of safety features.

BRZ’s new cockpit design features a clean, intuitive layout with highly visible and readily accessible instruments and controls. A new 7-inch, customisable digital instrument cluster puts the tachometer at its centre and features a digital speedometer readout while a large 8-inch central touchscreen infotainment system makes easy operation of key systems including:

  • Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ connectivity
  • Digital radio (DAB+)
  • Satellite navigation
  • Vehicle settings

Inside, the cabin is finished in sporty black upholstery and features a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift. BRZ Coupe’s sports seats are cloth-trimmed while Coupe S seats are finished in a combination of Ultrasuede® and leather-accented trim. Driver and front passenger seats are heated in the Coupe S.

The stylish coupe’s body has approximately 60 per cent more front lateral bending rigidity and approximately 50 per cent more torsional stiffness than its predecessor. Aluminium materials have been used extensively for the bonnet, front fenders and roof skin, helping to keep the car’s weight low despite the fact it has gained additional equipment.

New BRZ’s impressive ride and handling qualities are managed by electrically-assisted rack and pinion steering, independent MacPherson front struts and double rear wishbone suspension and 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in low-profile Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres. Braking is handled by large, ventilated front and rear disc brakes.

Commenting on new MY22 BRZ, Subaru Australia Managing Director Blair Read said the compact sports coupe has generated an impressive amount of pre-launch interest, with the first allocation of 500 vehicles already exhausted. We look forward to sharing more information about pre-order for the next allocation of the popular Subaru BRZ in due course.

“It is a rare vehicle – an incredibly nimble sports coupe that is truly engaging to drive, a car with great balance and control, designed and engineered with pure driving pleasure in mind,” Mr Read said.

"When you combine BRZ’s improved power-to-weight ratio, an engine delivering more power and torque than the outgoing model and an even lower centre of gravity, along with the eye-catching new Coupe styling, it simply can't possibly get any better as a fun driver's car!"
