Insurance FAQs
Q: How is my Motor Vehicle Insurance premium calculated?
A: The premium that you are charged varies according to the following factors:
- The Subaru model you are insuring;
- The level of cover required;
- Where you live or where the vehicle is garaged/kept;
- Other relevant drivers (or owners); and
- Your claims history (and other relevant drivers claims history).
In addition, your premium will also include any compulsory government charges.
Your premium may also be eligible for a discount. These discounts may be in the form of:
- Multi Policy discount;
- No claims bonus;
- Safe driver discount; and
- Restricted driver discount.
Q: When does a Multi Policy Discount apply?
A: A Multi Policy Discount (MPD) applies when you purchase either Subaru Loan Protection Insurance or Subaru Motor Equity Insurance at the same time as you purchase a Subaru Motor Comprehensive Insurance Policy. The discount is applied to the Subaru Motor Comprehensive Insurance Policy and can be up to a discount of 15%. This is in addition to any other discounts that may apply.
Q: What is a no claim discount?
A: For each claim free period of insurance you will accumulate a discount off your motor vehicle insurance premium up to a maximum amount. This maximum amount will vary according to the State or Territory in which your vehicle is garaged/kept.
Any no claim bonus entitlement you hold with another insurance company is transferable. You may be required to provide documentary evidence of your current no claim bonus entitlement.
Q: Who will repair my vehicle?
A: You have the freedom to choose your own repairer, should your vehicle be involved in an accident. This means that you can choose a repairer you trust, or you can choose from one of Subaru's appointed network of preferred repairers. They’ll make sure that your vehicle is restored as Subaru designers intended. In addition, you get a guarantee for the workmanship of the repair for as long as you own the vehicle.
Q: What is an Agreed value?
A: This is the amount that we agree to insure your vehicle for as shown in your current schedule.
Q: What is a Market value?
A: This is the cost to replace your vehicle with a vehicle of the same make, model, age and condition as your vehicle immediately prior to the loss or damage. The market value is based upon motor vehicle valuation standards used within the Australian Insurance industry.
Q: Do I need to list all drivers on my Motor Vehicle Insurance?
A: Yes. In order for you to be fully covered in the event of a claim, you need to provide information about all drivers that you know will drive the vehicle. Failure to disclose drivers may mean that a higher excess may apply, or in some cases, you may not be fully covered in the event of a claim.
Q: For how long is my auto insurance quote valid?
A: 30 days.
Q: Is there a guarantee on repairs?
A: Yes. Subaru Insurance will ensure the integrity of your Subaru, protecting its performance, safety and appearance. You receive a guarantee on the materials and workmanship on authorised repairs for as long as you own or lease your vehicle. This guarantee is not transferable.
Q: What excesses apply to my policy?
A: Most motor vehicle policies have a standard excess. However, experience has shown that most policy holders do not claim unless the damage cost is much higher than the standard excess. For this reason Subaru Insurance provides you with flexible excess levels. This means you have the option to increase the excess on your policy to save on your premium.
In addition to the standard excess, other excesses may apply to your policy. These are shown in your insurance schedule and must be paid when making a claim unless we state that an excess does not apply.
Q: Will I always have to pay my excess if I have a claim?
A: There are some instances where you will not have to pay an excess after lodging a claim. You will not have to pay any excess if:
a. The driver of your vehicle at the time of the accident did not contribute to the cause of the accident; or
b. Your vehicle was damaged while parked, and for both circumstances you provide us with:
(i) The name, address and licence number of each responsible party,
(ii) The registration number of the other vehicle(s) involved in the accident;
c. The claimable loss is recoverable by us.

Q: Do you insure drivers under 25?
